Write an essay on the challenges our region face

The Dubai Strategy Forum aims to develop the region by bringing together key stakeholders to participate in activities that overcome differences and provide growth opportunities and prosperity in the region. As part of this plan, the Forum is announcing an essay competition to write a 2000-word essay that discusses how the region can meet its key challenges. This is part of the efforts put to help develop the region and overcome differences and challenges.
A maximum 2000-word essay should be submitted including a 300-word synopsis and should be written in English. The essay should include a cover letter in addition to the author's personal data: name, date of birth, address, telephone number, email address, gender, and nationality.
A prize jury will judge the essay and the winner will be awarded the following:

· US $5000
· VIP pass to the Dubai Strategy Forum
· Round Trip Airfare to Dubai from any location served by Emirates Airlines
· 4 nights accommodation in Dubai

The content of the essay should discuss any or all the social, political, economic, commercial, technological, or environmental challenges that the "region" faces.
The region includes the countries and people of Gulf States, the Indian Subcontinent, Central Asia, North and East Africa and the Levant
The 2000-word limit excludes charts, tables, footnotes, references, and appendices.
The author's name and the essay's title should appear on each page of the essay.
All submissions must be in English.
A limited number of charts or tables may be used where helpful to presentation.
Essay must be original
No direct translation of a non-English document is allowed that has been previously published.

Submitting the essay:
Submitting the essay can be in one of three ways,

Any essays received in ways other than email, post or fax will not be eligible for the judging process. Entries must be received by the Dubai Strategy Forum on or before October 15,2002. Any entries received after this date will not be eligible for entry into the competition.
The author of the winning entry will be notified approximately one week prior to the Dubai Strategy Forum. The winner will be announced to the public at the Dubai Strategy Forum.

Participation in this competition is free and the competition is open to all nationalities. However, authors must be over 18 years of age be September 1st 2002 to be eligible for participation.

About Dubai Strategy Forum
Dubai Strategy Forum's main goal is to develop the state of the region by bringing together key stakeholders to engage in activities that bridge differences and build opportunities for growth and prosperity in the region.
The Forum aims to create a new business and economic constellation among the countries of the region. The region is defined as the Gulf and Levant, South Asia, Central Asia, East Africa and North Africa.
The Forum organizes an annual meeting of prominent business executives, leading government figures, experts from academia, and key representatives of civil society and the media. Together they address the critical economic, government and societal issues affecting the region in a forward-looking, action-oriented way.
The structure of the Forum is designed to promote a constructive and collaborative approach to regional issues. The Forum includes plenary sessions of featured speakers and panel discussions, seminars, workshops, working lunches, bilateral meetings and various networking events.
