50 Chevening Scholarships for Egyptians

It is this
time of the year when applications are solicited for the British Chevening
Scholarships. Here is your chance to fully fund one year of graduate studies in
the university of your choice in the United Kingdom. The scholarship covers
course fees, living allowance and return airfare.
The
British Chevening Scholarships, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office,
are prestigious awards enabling overseas students to study in the United
Kingdom. The scholarships are offered in more than 150 countries and give
talented graduates and young professionals the opportunity to become familiar
with the UK and gain skills which will benefit their countries.
In Egypt,
the British Embassy is offering up to 50 Chevening scholarships for Egyptian
nationals to undertake postgraduate study in the UK during the academic year
2006/2007. The Chevening program is managed by the British Council and
generously sponsored by the Orientals Group, Shell Egypt, BP Egypt, HSBC Egypt
Bank, BG International, and British Airways.
The
Scholarships
The
scholarships are fully funded and cover course fees, living allowance and return
airfare. The scholarships are for postgraduate study of up to a maximum of
twelve months. Most scholars undertake Masters programs, but awards to pursue
short courses or research for between three to twelve months are also offered.
Applications are invited for study in all subject areas, however priority will
be given to the following: Sustainable Development; Environment; Human rights
and Good Governance; Economics; Finance and Banking; Media; Politics and
International law.
Competition
for scholarships is very high and only applicants who meet the following
criteria will normally be considered:
1. A
university degree with a grade of "Very Good" or GPA 3 plus.
2.
Three or more years’ work experience.
3. A
strong command of English to cope with life and study in the UK.
4.
Between the ages of 25 and 35.
5. An
International English Language Test (IELTS) minimum score of 6.5
6.
Free from all military or official service requirements

Applications should be submitted to the British Council Offices promptly and no
later than 30 September 2005.
