Cairo witnessed January 16th the biggest telecommunication and Information Technology event, “Cairo Telecomp 2001.” And for the first time ever, an exhibition – under name “Cairo’s e-town”- dedicated to ISPs, ASPs, dot coms, web developers, content providers, as well as e-business companies.
The Cairo International Conference Center premises witnessed Tuesday January 16th, the most comprehensive telecommunication and IT event, “Cairo Telecomp 2001.” The exhibition is an annual event aimed at gathering the world's top telecom, IT, Networking, satellite and broadcast fields. And for the first time, the Middle East witnesses an exhibition – under name “Cairo’s e-town”- dedicated to ISPs, ASPs, dot coms, web developers, content providers, as well as e-business companies.
The web is not only a medium to gather information from, but it is also a way to search career opportunities, make money, collect favorite songs; and all of this at a high speed and cheep rates. Therefore, there was a vital need for an exhibition such as Cairo e-town, where people using the web can walk in, browse monitors, check different sites and learn more about the services of the different exhibitors.
Skill Link was one of the exhibitors in Cairo’s e-town and participated in the Live Panel organized on Wednesday January 17th discussing dot.com business.
Ossama Kamal, organizer of Cairo Telecomp 2001, moderated the live panel and introduced all the representative of e-business companies to the audience. Recently Internet based applications have grown in size as well as in reach. The Internet has proven to be a more effective medium to the traditional existing media, which prevailed over the past decades. It has actually become the smart medium to be used by businesses in securing their needs of human resources in Egypt and all around the world. Though the life cycle of dot com’s is pretty short compared to other businesses, “Egypt can definitely handle more than one recruitment agency and candidates should get the option of choice,” said Tarek Amin, Chief Marketing Officer of Career Egypt.
When asked about the differences between the three leading Internet based recruitment applications (www.skill-link.com, www.careeregypt.com and www.bayt.com), Mr. Alaa El Ghadban, Managing Director of Skill Link, highlights two main unique facts about the site: confidentiality and verification process. Confidentiality is highly observed in skill-link.com; corporate recruiters will have access to blind resumes: without seeing the names of job seekers or their employers’ identity. Only the job seeker can electronically allow an interested recruiter to view his personal information- in response to a recruiter request received in his/her Messages Box.
As for the verification process, “a dedicated operations team takes the effort of verifying candidates’ data making sure that the information posted on the site is a true reflection of their capabilities and skills,” said El Ghadban. The verification is done through e-mails, telephone calls or one on one interview. Corporate recruiters highly appreciate this service as “it saves them the time and effort required during the recruitment process,” added El Ghadban.
When asked about the age factor in the dot com business, El Ghadban believes the introduction of the World Wide Web has given a great chance for youth to learn on their own. The net has opened new horizons to these young people.
