MUBARAK LIBRARY HOSTS Skill Link
The premises of the Mubarak Library in Giza witnessed on Monday December 4th, a seminar aimed at discussing the role, which the Internet can provide in the recruitment field.
The two speakers were Mr. Alaa El Ghadban, Managing Director of Skill Link and Mr. Sherif Abdel Baky, President of the Egyptian Society for Youth & Computer. El Ghadban started his speech by explaining how skill-link.com is different from other online recruitment sites. He highlighted the fact that each and every posted CV is first screened and verified before being viewable to subscribers.
“We take the effort of calling people for an interview to verify the information mentioned on their CV,” said El Ghadban. This verification process is not meant to check whether or not the candidate is lying but done to make sure that the CV is a true reflection of the person’s capabilities. “And this in-house interview is one of the factors that really differentiate skill-link.com from other online recruitment sites,” adds El Ghadban.
He then moves to the technical part of the site; skill-link.com uses an automatic electronic system, which provides easier communication and is essential to maintain the confidentiality level required for handling candidate information.
El Ghadban proudly announced that skill-link.com has launched the first weekly English magazine, its Interest Zone. The publication provides the visitors with news about scholarships, courses and books to be read. It also includes jokes, IT information, polls and historical facts.
As for why skill-link.com is an Internet based application, El Ghadban explained that in the recent history the Internet has became an increasing medium resorted to by institutions. In a relatively short period of time Internet based applications grew in size as well as in reach. They are proving to be a more effective alternative to the traditional practices, which prevailed over the past decades. It has become the smart medium to be used by businesses in securing their needs of human resources.
Being on the net also enables people to have a fair chance in finding a job without any connections. In other words, “everybody can post his/her CV and what really counts here is their qualifications and not who they are,” added El Ghadban. The accessibility of the net 24 hours a day/ 365 days a year is among the reasons why it was decided to use an Internet based application.
In its efforts to help solve the unemployment problem in Egypt, Skill Link has taken the extra effort to establish regional presence. By expanding its regional reach, Skill Link hopes to beef up the supply side of available job opportunities for its posted candidates. “Our regional expansion plan includes a branch in Dubai, an agency representation in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi,” said El Ghadban. “We intend to be optimum in these markets within the first quarter of the year 2001,” he added.
