Registration for continuous education starts

The Open University is a system that encourages self-learning through distance education. It is designed to offer certain academic courses leading to earning a degree for those who are note intending to join a regular university.

This system provides flexibility for the student whereby one selects the academic courses desired and studying is done using specially selected books and other methods of learning such as videotapes, CD's … etc. Moreover, there are weekly meetings on Fridays between the students and instructors for further discussion of the subjects.

Cairo University's Center for Open Education is currently accepting registrations for the new semester "September 2002" to earn a bachelor's degree in the following programs:

1. Mass Communication Program (Faculty of Mass Communication).
2. Translation into English Program (Faculty of Arts).
3. Financial and Commercial Transactions Program (Faculty of Commerce).
4. Practical Legal Studies Program (Faculty of Law).
5. Desert Land Reclamation & Cultivation Technology Program (Faculty of Agriculture).

Application Requirements:

  • Application is restricted to students who obtained a high school certificate (Thanaweya Amma, Technical Thanaweya and Thanaweya Azhareya) 5 or more years ago.
  • They must have obtained a minimum score of 50% as stated by the Higher Council of Universities resolution.
  • Applying for the 'Practical Legal Studies' Program is restricted to candidates who acquired a Thanaweya Amma and Thanaweya Azharya only.
  • The admission into both the 'Mass Communication' program and 'Translation into English' program is conditional upon passing a personal interview conducted before registration. Instructors from both Faculty of Mass Communication and Faculty of Arts will conduct the interview.
  • The preparation of the scientific content of the courses, the periodic meetings with students, and the preparation of exams is done by specialized instructors in each faculty in collaboration with specialized instructors in open education technologies.

Required Documents:

  • Original High School Certificate
  • Original birth certificate
  • 6 personal photos
  • Copy of ID for Egyptians or a copy of the passport for non-Egyptians
  • Military service status
  • Graduation Certificate for higher institute diploma graduates
  • For university graduates, a detailed report with all the subjects studied and their grades should be submitted in order to waive previously studied courses from the one applied for. Maximum number of subjects to be waived is 10 subjects.

Registration begins on Saturday September 7th, 2002 until Friday September 11th, 2002.
